Yet, many successes depend on competitions where only few can be the winners; actually, they regularly create many more losers than winners. This may motivate some to interpret rules leniently, to engage in cheating or acts close to it. In other words, they are trading authenticity for success. My students started asking me for my view on the performance society many years ago. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schleim.info\/Schleim-2021-Authenticity_Success_Performance_Society_(final).pdf\">This essay<\/a> gives my answer.
